Lessons for My Sons

1. Gallantry is not dead.
2. Understand basic tools and equipment. That includes a washer, dryer, dishwasher, and an oven.
3. Read. Constantly.
4. Don't voice an opinion if you have not done your own adequate research.
5. Complaining without proposing a solution, is just whining.
6. If you're the smartest person in the room, you're in the wrong room.
7. Life is not fair. Get used to it.
8. Give second chances. Not thirds.
9. If you think it's greener on the other side, it's probably fertilized with shit, or the water bill is too high. Maintain your own lawn and it will grow.
10. Don't resort to your fists to solve a dispute. But if you have to, hit first and hit hard.
11. Make peace with your past. Don't allow it to disrupt your present.
12. Take caution of the person who has nothing to lose.
13. Your self-worth has nothing to do with anyone else's thoughts of you.
14. You are truly who you hang with. Choose your friends wisely.
15. Don't be afraid to burn a bridge. There's always more than one way to cross a river.
16. Look people in the eye, have a firm handshake and speak with volume even if your voice shakes.
17. Never underestimate a woman's ability to find things out.
18. Never underestimate a woman.
19. If a girl is constantly trying to change you, she doesn't love you. She loves the idea of you. Move on.
20. Learn how to make a budget. Learn how to stick to it.
21. Have a hobby and learn a trade.
22. Be humble and modest. A lot was accomplished before you.
23. Bullies = Cowards. Stand up to them. You'll only have to do it once.
24. If a girl so much as hesitates, it means no.
25. Don't linger in a doorway. In or out.
26. Eat lunch with the new kids.
27. When they say 'marry your best friend,' believe them.
28. Be a good loser. Be an even better winner.
29. Make time for your mother on your birthday. It was a pretty big day for her too.
30. You will be told that boys don't cry. Do not listen. You're emotions are one of the components that make us human. Embrace emotions, learn from emotions, then use emotions to move onward.

Life is tough. But that doesn't mean you can't be tough back. Live simply and live boldly. Believe me when I say, nobody knows what they're doing in life, even if from afar it looks it. Be you, do you, and never question if I will be there for you.
